Tips on how to have your Google account secured

Google offers web-based services like Gmail for email, Google Calendar for time-management and scheduling, Google Maps for mapping, navigation and satellite imagery, Google Drive for cloud storage of files, Google Docs, Sheets and Slides for productivity, Google Translate for language translation, YouTube for video viewing and sharing and a lot more. Google improved service to make our life easier.

 

Behind the convenience Google provides us, it also became a birds-eye-view for hackers. Because they know that most of your important information is synced to our google account.

This BLOG will help you strengthen the security of your Google account.

Step 2: Activate 2-Step Verification

This process provides additional security on your account as it sent code to your phone before you can access your account on an untrusted device. 

a.  First, sign in to your

   google account to Gmail.

Follow the steps below on how to activate your 2-Step verification.

b. Second, click the Google app which is the 9 dots in the upper corner of your window.

c. Third, choose “Account”.

d. Forth, select “Security

     from the list of the tab.

e. Fifth, turn-on 2-step verification.

j.  Hit the GET STARTED button

j.  Type your phone number &

   you can choose to Recevice

 the code via text or voice call.

 Then hit NEXT button.

j.  Enter the code you

    received via text or

    via voice automated 
    call then hit NEXT

j.  Click the TURN ON.

j. This time 2 step verification is ON

k. Aside from text message,

you can also set a Google

Prompt on your android Phone

and just tap Yes to sign in and
many more set up that will

discuss  later on.

Since the 2-Step verification is set-up, it will ask security feature every time you log-in to a new device, even if you successfully logged-in the correct password (unrecognized device, it also applied to google incognito & Firefox New Private Window).

4. Hit the Next Button

    (a text message will be 

  sent to your mobile phone)

6. Enter the code received

  to verify your account.

(You have the option to check the box to remember your computer for 30 days)

5. there will be a prompt notification to your phone that 

you need to hit the NEXT button to log-in successfully.

Google Authenticator

Once you turned on 2-Step Verification, you can set a Google Authenticator. 

Step 1: Password

When setting a password, it is important not to use personal information that hackers might think of your password, like your birthday, your spouse or children’s birthday, etc. because a secured password in one a hacker can’t easily guess and advisable to be unique and complex. 

The ideal password should be a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, symbols, and numbers.
